Reading

Students should be reading every day to improve fluency. Students should also be discussing their reading to improve comprehension. Students should be able to answer factual questions (characters, setting, and major events) and inferential questions (character traits and motivations).

 

Students should be using strategies to help with comprehension, such as predicting, drawing conclusions, and identifying the main idea and details.

 

Math

Students are reviewing place value and writing numbers in multiple ways, such as standard form, expanded form, and word form. Students in first grade should understand place value through tens. Students in second grade should understand place value through hundreds. Students in third grade should understand place value through hundred thousand. Students in fourth grade should understand place value through millions. Students in fifth grade should understand place value through hundred million, as well as decimals through thousandths.

All students should also be reviewing basic math facts.
